"I don't know what day it is anymore. The time in between research and anything else is indeterminate these days. Things seem to be going, but in what direction I cannot say for sure.... There are 26 of us left in this facility but that number changes surprisingly slowly considering what at street level. I push for a cure... No, not a cure but an understanding of events. In order to cure something you first must understand its 'why' and 'how'. Maybe its purpose is something you can live without for a time, but some things are essential to the learning process and I think I am on track for one of them!"

"I know what I think and what the others around here think of me. I have to say that in the face of all that has happened on this god forsaken shit hole of a planet, I am neither surprised nor do I care. I am here to figure out what we can do about this.. if anything."

The sounds of metal on metal are clear among the low level background noise. These could be instruments or tools used by a medical examiner. -------------------------------------------------------------
"I am working on Trial 21B Series 15, again. I still believe that we are close to an answer on the last round of potential cures, if you can call them that. I want to definitively identify the cause of of failure of Trial 21B Series 10. Something changed while we were looking for a reason and that something is the key to what may answer a lot of questions.
Now, I realize my colleagues are all ready to move on to something else but I need to find out how this started. Maybe then I can get a better understanding of what to do next. The infection was massive and spanned the globe in one of the fastest epidemics anyone has ever see. I'm no paleobiologist but this sure looks a lot like what may have wiped out other populations throughout Earth's tumultuous history. This thing is treated all humans as if it were wiping the slate clean and starting over. That's what I just don't understand here. Why wipe us out and then bring us back? For that matter, why send everyone walking in the same direction?"

"I don't know if we are loosing what little grip we have here in the this safe house, but I am starting to wonder. Things aren't going well. Ha... like killing off most of humanity was a bright spot for someone. Richert told me I was full of philosophical bullshit the other night, but I think he's just scared. He said all we need is to know how to stop them from killing themselves and how to make better containment mechanisms for them so we remain safe. I told him he was full of ignorance, since shit has the intelligence enough to at least smell bad. It was as close to a physical fight as anyone ever wants to get down here."

"We need to understand the start of the mess before we can find a way to save people from it. There are many speculations about how it started. No solid proof of anything that we can find.. not like we can find anything while trapped underground 15 hours a day. I have my own theory as to what started this, but Ill save that for another time. There was a lot of shit hitting the fan at once on the surface and none of it was documented as far as we can tell. There was however, a complete breakdown of all civilian and military communications both internally and with the public at large. The support everyone anticipated from the government and its resources was either the firs thing affected or they up and ran out on all of us! Its still not clear which but I have a feeling the latter would be closer to the truth...
What we have on our hands, what has happened to the planet, is a giant interplanetary cluster fuck. Now, all we need to do is unscrew the pooch. Simple right? God I hope so!
